If you paid for spray foam by credit card or with finance for the work, Section 75 may let you claim against the lender for misrepresentation or breach of contract, where the cash price was over £100 and not over £30,000[1]. In published ombudsman decisions, independent evidence gathered before any removal has shaped the outcome[2][3].

What to do next
- Write down what you remember of the sales pitch, and date it; notes made at the time of the visit carried weight in one decision[13].
- Gather the contract, finance or card records, warranty and product approval: see what paperwork you should have for spray foam.
- Before any removal, get independent evidence of what is in the loft and its condition[2].
- Put everything to the lender with your Section 75 claim, then go to the ombudsman if it is rejected[11].
- Check the installation date against the six-year limit[5]. This is general information, not legal advice. If you want independent evidence of what is in your loft, see the inspection below.
Secure independent evidence before anything changes
In published ombudsman decisions, independent evidence gathered before removal has shaped the outcome. An evidence inspection documents the foam, its condition and any installation defects, cross-referenced to your paperwork where available, for your own claim.

Questions people ask
Can I claim compensation for spray foam insulation?
Can I claim back the cost of spray foam removal?
Removal costs were part of some published decisions. One upheld decision refunded the installation and the removal, with interest, and another upheld decision directed a refund and the cost of removing the foam[13][14]. In others, removing the foam before an independent assessment left the claim unsupported[17]. These are examples of reasoning in individual cases, not predictions.
Can I claim because spray foam has caused a mortgage problem?
For sales between 2018 and 2021, ombudsman decisions found no evidence that installers could have known lenders would object, so silence about mortgages was neither a misrepresentation nor a breach in those cases[11]. In another case the point failed because she had not said she planned to sell or borrow, lenders' approaches varied, and there was no evidence all would refuse[3]. See what lenders publish about spray foam.
I keep getting calls offering to claim back money for my spray foam. Should I agree?
Check before agreeing to anything. In 2025 the HomeOwners Alliance and the PCA warned that legal firms pursuing mis-selling claims were targeting owners, many elderly or vulnerable[21]. Claims management fees are capped by FCA rules[7], and you can approach your lender yourself[12]. See spray foam cold calls and scams.
Is there a group action for mis-sold spray foam?
None was found in the sources checked for this guide. The February 2023 press report behind the "500-person" claim quoted a claims firm saying more than 500 homeowners had signed up, but named no court action, defendant or legal basis, and gave no independent source[22]. Each claim still turns on its own evidence[4].
