The government says to get specialist advice before deciding. Where does this inspection fit?

The government's October 2026 paper on spray foam says to take advice from a specialist surveyor experienced in spray foam before deciding anything, and points to the Property Care Association's find-a-specialist tool. SprayFoamCheck isn't a chartered surveyor or a PCA member and isn't listed there; inspections are carried out in line with PCA guidance. What this inspection gives you is independent evidence: what the foam is, what it was sprayed onto, ventilation and timber moisture, photographed and measured, and set against whatever paperwork you have. It's yours to share with any surveyor, solicitor or adviser you choose.

Do I need to remove any foam before the inspection?

No. It is a non-invasive visual inspection with readings at accessible points. Nothing is disturbed or removed.

Will the report tell me whether removal is needed?

It tells you what was found and what the findings mean, plainly. Where the findings point to removal, the report says so and why. Where they don't, it says that too. In the published case files, removal was the outright recommendation in about 1 in 10 lofts where foam was still in place.

Can I use the report for a Section 75 or ombudsman complaint?

Buying with old foam on the slates: the lowest reading came from failed timber

Closed-cell foam on the back of the slates, said to be over twenty years old, with no paperwork at all. Fourteen readings ran 16.3% to 20.6% in summer, and the wall plate, which read just 11.6%, came apart under light finger pressure where examined.
